Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Tom Wolf toured the Planned Parenthood Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center in downtown Philadelphia and met with patients and staff of the facility, as well as local activists who were instrumental in defeating the attempted repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would have had a devastating impact on Pennsylvanians and the commonwealth had it been enacted.
Governor Wolf began by touring the facility, then met with patient advocates, volunteer leaders, and Planned Parenthood staff members, and thanked them for their roles in defeating the attempted repeal of the ACA, as well as their advocacy on behalf of women’s health and rights.
“We’re here today at Planned Parenthood’s Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center to show our support for the over 90,000 Pennsylvania Planned Parenthood patients and to thank those who have worked so tirelessly to stop ill-informed politicians from blocking access to care,” Gov. Wolf said. “I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood and the many dedicated staff, volunteers, and patients who truly understand that providing quality health care to women is the right thing to do, in Pennsylvania and across the U.S.”
Planned Parenthood Southeastern PA recently began offering hormone replacement therapy to patients in the process of transitioning. A long-time Planned Parenthood staff member who understands first-hand how important it is to offer these services, and how crucial access to high-quality, confidential care is to this patient population, offered insight into working with transitioning and LGBTQ teens.
Governor Wolf also learned about how Planned Parenthood serves the immigrant community in Philadelphia. As Title X providers, Planned Parenthood is truly the nation’s family planning provider where the immigrant community can receive low-cost subsidized preventive family planning care.
Governor Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf are longtime supporters of Planned Parenthood’s mission, and they have volunteered their time in the past to serve as escorts for patients at Planned Parenthood’s health center in York, Pennsylvania. This was the Governor’s first opportunity to take a formal tour of a Planned Parenthood health center and witness firsthand the important work they do in providing vital health care services to local communities.
Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania (PPSP) is an affiliate of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. PPSP serves Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania.
