While continuing to urge the legislature to pass a statewide anti-discrimination bill, Governor Wolf signed two executive orders last Thursday that expand protections from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender expression or identity. The protections under the executive orders apply to state employees and, for the first time, employees of businesses contracted by the state.

“What happened in North Carolina, and what is going on in other states, should be a call to pass non-discrimination legislation in Pennsylvania now,” the governor said. “We must show that Pennsylvania is the place that William Penn envisioned when he founded our commonwealth on the principle that it is open, diverse, and inclusive for all people”

Since the signing of the orders, Governor Wolf has received support and praise from a number of organizations who share his goal to have anti-discrimination legislation passed statewide and ensure protection for all Pennsylvanians.
