Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf invite the public to join them for the official start of the Holiday Season in the state capitol during the annual Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting at noon on Monday, December 14, 2015 in the Rotunda of the Main Capitol Building in Harrisburg.
This year marks the return of the tree lighting to the main rotunda during the noon-time hour. The ornaments for the tree were made and donated by Older Pennsylvanians from Senior Centers across the commonwealth.
“Pennsylvania’s Capitol Building is truly one of the most stunning in the country, especially around Christmas time,” Governor Wolf said. “Nothing helps to spread the holiday spirit like the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting. By bringing the tree lighting back to the noon-time hour, we hope that more of the people who work in and visit the capitol during the day will be able to enjoy it, as it is something that many look forward to each year.”
The Governor and First Lady will be joined by Pennsylvania Department of General Services Secretary Curt Topper, Reverend David Lovelace of St. John Episcopal Church in York PA, representatives of the Pennsylvania Christmas Tree Growers Association and other special guests. The Hershey Community Chorus will perform and Santa Claus will make an appearance as well.
The Governor will deliver a special holiday message and lead the audience for the countdown for to light the Capitol Christmas Tree.
