Governor Wolf Announces “It’s On Us PA” Grant Opportunity to Combat Sexual Violence on Campus

January 08, 2018

Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf announced today the “It’s On Us PA” program is accepting grant applications to combat sexual violence at colleges and universities. The Department of Education will award grants up to $30,000. Applications must be submitted by the end of January 31, 2018.

“Since Pennsylvania joined the national “It’s On Us” campaign two years ago, more brave men and women have come forward with allegations of harassment and assault, and we must do all we can to prevent these attacks,” said Governor Wolf. “The #MeToo movement is another reminder of the seriousness of sexual assault in our society and these grants will help colleges and universities to partner with us to make campuses safer.”

Programs or activities eligible for funding include campus-wide training for students, faculty and staff; institutional campaigns to raise awareness and understanding of the reporting process and resources available to and rights of survivors of sexual violence; programs that enhance awareness of available resources and students’ rights or seek to increase mechanisms for anonymous reporting; and efforts to improve capacity to collect federal- or state-required data.

Grant applications are available on the Pennsylvania Department of Education website.

Last year nearly $1 million in grants was awarded to 36 postsecondary institutions across the state – including community colleges, and independent and public 2- year and 4-year colleges and universities.

The It’s On Us campaign is a national initiative to raise awareness about sexual assault; teaching participants that assault includes non-consensual sex, advising them on how to identify dangerous situations, empowering them to intervene, and urging them to create an environment of support for victims and survivors.

Pennsylvanians are invited to join the thousands of people, including superintendents and university and college presidents, who have signed the “It’s On Us” Pledge, which encourages everyone to help end sexual assault. The It’s On Us PA website has more information about the campaign and pre-written tweets users can share on Twitter to encourage others to take the pledge.
