Governor Wolf Applauds Passage of the 21st Century Cures Act
December 07, 2016
Harrisburg, PA – Today following the passage of the 21st Century Cures Act, Governor Tom Wolf released the following statement:
“I want to thank Senator Bob Casey and Senator Pat Toomey as well as the representatives of the Pennsylvania delegation who supported this legislation for voting in support of the 21st Century Cures Act.
“This legislation infuses funds desperately needed to support millions of Americans suffering from chronic diseases, disabilities, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and substance use disorder. I applaud this bipartisan effort that will foster innovation, fast-track effective treatment options, and deliver effective treatments and cures.
“Every day, we lose ten Pennsylvanians to the disease of opioid addiction. 3,500 Pennsylvanians lost their lives in 2015 alone and it appears that the numbers for 2016 will be even higher. While we have made investing in solutions to the heroin use and opioid abuse epidemic a priority in Pennsylvania, this legislation will allow us to bolster those efforts and help stem this devastating public health crisis.”
“I look forward to working with our partners in the federal government to ensure this legislation will benefit the hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians seeking treatment and support.”
Yesterday, Governor Wolf sent a letter to Senator Pat Toomey and Senator Bob Casey encouraging them to swiftly pass this legislation.
