Governor Wolf Appoints Denise Smyler to Gaming Control Board

Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf today announced Denise J. Smyler has been appointed to the Gaming Control Board. Smyler most recently served as General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“Denise has provided our commonwealth with indispensable legal expertise for five years,” said Gov. Wolf. “She will be an asset to the Gaming Control Board.”

Prior to being appointed General Counsel by Governor Wolf at the start of his first term in January 2015, Smyler worked as an assistant district attorney, as legal counsel to the Philadelphia Prison Commissioner and subsequently as chief legal counsel to the Philadelphia Police Commissioner. As General Counsel, Smyler oversaw the provision of legal services to the governor, his senior staff, and more than 30 executive branch and independent agencies.

Smyler is a graduate of New York University and earned her J.D. from Georgetown University. She was the founding attorney and owner of The Smyler Firm, which she managed for more than sixteen years.
