Governor Wolf Invites Public to Comment on Gerrymandering and Congressional Redistricting
February 01, 2018
Harrisburg, PA – As a part of his continued effort to hear from Pennsylvanians on gerrymandering and congressional redistricting, Governor Tom Wolf is inviting the public to provide their feedback online at governor.pa.gov/fair-maps. The General Assembly has until February 9 to redraw the congressional map after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the existing districts last month.
“I’ve already met with hundreds of people across the state about what they want in this redistricting process and I want to give everyone an opportunity to share their opinion with me and make their voice heard,” said Governor Wolf. “The comments people provide through this website will be invaluable to me. The state Supreme Court’s ruling that the current congressional districts are unconstitutional is an opportunity to eliminate partisan gerrymandering and protect the rights of all voters in Pennsylvania to have a fair map.”
This week Governor Wolf held listening sessions in State College and Philadelphia on the impact on their communities from the now-overturned congressional maps, and will hold a third in Pittsburgh this afternoon.
To provide guidance to evaluate the redistricting maps that will be created by the General Assembly, Governor Wolf has selected Moon Duchin, Ph.D., a non-partisan mathematician and Associate Professor of Mathematics from Tufts University.
