Governor Wolf Names Luz B. Colon as Executive Director of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs

March 21, 2016

Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf today announced the appointment of Luz B. Colon to the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. On August 4, 2015, Governor Wolf signed an executive order to reestablish the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs.

“I look forward to working with Luz to define and address the unique contributions, needs and concerns of the Latino community, in order to improve the lives of all Pennsylvanians.” said Governor Tom Wolf. “Latinos in Pennsylvania make unique, diverse and valuable contributions to the culture, society and economy of Pennsylvania, which have a beneficial impact on life in the commonwealth.”

“As a Latina, I assume personal responsibility in bringing forth and showcasing what the Latino community is doing in a positive light,” said Luz. “I am honored to serve Governor Wolf as the Executive Director of his Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs.”

For the last 8 years, Luz has worked under Councilman William K. Greenlee where she works as a Community Liaison. Her position has allowed her to service constituent needs and bridge the gap between city council and the community.  Luz also has had the pleasure to work for other city council members such as the former Councilman Angel L. Ortiz and current Councilwoman, Blondell Reynolds Brown.

Through Councilman Greenlee’s office, Luz has organized many community events all over the city to bring recourses to help families, including other districts belonging to Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, 3rd District and Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez, 7th District.

She is a current member of the National Conference of Puerto Rican Woman (NACOPRW) and has also dedicated 15 years as a committee chair person for the 20th Ward and 10th Division. In 2014, Luz was invited to sit on the Philadelphia Fight Advisory Board.

Luz grew up in North Philadelphia, in the Kensington section. Luz is the proud mother of two little boys, Joseph, age 11 and Sebastian, age 5. Because Luz is so passionate about growth and knowledge, she is currently enrolled in Community College of Philadelphia pursuing a degree in Political Science.
