Governor Wolf Proclaims Equal Pay Day in Pennsylvania
April 10, 2018
Harrisburg, PA – With today symbolizing how far into the year women must work to earn the same as men earned in 2017, Governor Tom Wolf declared today to be Equal Pay Day in Pennsylvania.
“It should be unacceptable to all of us that women do the same job and make the same contributions as men but make 20 percent less,” Governor Wolf said. “For women of color, the gap is even larger. Over a 40-year career, pay disparity can cost a woman $400,000, harming her standard of living and negatively affecting her retirement security.
“Equal pay for equal work is fundamental to Pennsylvania’s economy and the core of who we are as a commonwealth. We cannot wait any longer. We must level the playing field so that all workers get a fair wage for their work, both for the women of today and for future generations.”
