PA Personnel Deploy to Texas to Assist in Harvey Recovery
September 22, 2017
Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf announced that eight staffers from the Department of Human Services deployed today to Texas to support Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) operations there. DRCs provide disaster survivors a single point-of-contact to learn about assistance available to them from state or federal agencies.
“We recognize that the need for assistance in areas hit by these recent devastating storms will continue for quite some time,” said Governor Wolf. “We are proud that we have the staff with the necessary knowledge and experience to support the needs of our fellow citizens.”
The team will report to Austin, Texas to receive further instructions and assignment to a specific DRC. The deployment will last for two weeks with the option for an extension.
The request for assistance was made via the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a formal agreement that allows states to share resources, such as personnel or equipment, during disasters. All costs associated with the deployment are paid by the requesting state.
