Governor Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf Announce Second Sunday Events at the Governor’s Residence
June 11, 2015
Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf today invited the public to visit the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg for “Second Sundays,” an annual series of free summer events. Each second Sunday from June through September, visitors are invited to explore the Governor’s Residence and gardens from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Each event will highlight a specific theme and feature family-friendly activities.
“The Governor’s Residence is a key symbol of Pennsylvania’s rich history and culture,” said First Lady Frances Wolf. “We are excited for this opportunity to open the house and gardens to the public throughout the summer so Pennsylvanians can take advantage of this historical icon while also participating in a host of activities for the whole family.”
Throughout the summer, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by local arts organizations, observe live animal demonstrations, participate in children’s activities, and more. Residence docents, or tour guides, will be on hand at each event to provide information as visitors are invited to participate in self-guided tours of the Residence and gardens. Through a partnership with the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Dauphin County, volunteer master gardeners will also be on hand to offer expertise on horticultural topics and answer questions from visitors.
Second Sunday events are free, and reservations are not required. No large bags, purses or totes are permitted, and security measures will be in place. The dates and themes of the Second Sunday events are as follows:
· Sunday, June 14: 5th Annual Arts in the Garden
· Sunday, July 12: Good Gardening, Great Health
· Sunday, Aug. 9: Creatures of the Garden
· Sunday, Sept. 13: Gallery Walk & Garden Tours
Additionally, spring tour season at the Governor’s Residence runs through the end of June, with docent-led tours being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The current exhibition in the State Rooms, “Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania; Through the Lens of Paul W. Meyer,” will remain on display through August 31, however, after regular tour season, opportunities to view the exhibit will be limited to the Second Sunday events.
