Gun Violence Reduction
Last Tuesday, Governor Wolf joined the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus to announce a new $1.5 million Gun Violence Reduction Initiative and commend the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the release of $48 million in grants to organizations serving crime victims across Pennsylvania.

“After hearing from this community about the real-world dangers of gun violence, I’m proud to return and deliver funds to help stem the tide of violence,” said Governor Wolf. “We must continue to tackle this crisis head-on, and these new grants are an important step toward achieving that goal.”

The governor’s new program will offer competitive grants to municipalities for evidence-based programs proven to reduce gun violence.

Job Training
Governor Wolf continued to build on his Jobs that Pay initiative on Friday by announcing funding to expand training programs in Northwest Pennsylvania. He also awarded $2 million in Business Education Partnership grants to 18 projects across the commonwealth on Thursday. For a complete list of grant recipients, click here.

Women’s Health
On Wednesday, Governor Wolf signed House Bill 1869 into law, now Act 24 of 2018, to investigate maternal deaths. This law will create a 15-member Maternal Mortality Review Committee within the Department of Health to collect confidential information or investigate and disseminate findings related to maternal deaths.

“With the alarming rate of maternal deaths in Pennsylvania, establishing this committee will help take immediate action in determining the reasons for this phenomenon and, more importantly, help to develop prevention recommendations,” Governor Wolf said.

Improving Infrastructure
Governor Wolf joined PennDOT Secretary Richards on Tuesday to announce funding for 82 projects that will improve transportation alternatives across the commonwealth. These projects will enhance mobility and public accessibility for Pennsylvanians in 39 counties.
