PA.gov That Works: More Pilot Updates and Our New Look

PA.gov That Works is a series of blog posts dedicated to Pennsylvania digital initiatives. In this post, we’re talking about the latest PA.gov pilot updates and our new look.

Ever since we announced the launch of our PA.gov pilot website in 2016, we’ve been hard at work combing through analytics and user feedback to add, subtract, and fine-tune to make PA.gov work better for you.

Our latest round of pilot updates includes a branding refresh, a new trending content section, phase two of our government directory, and new topical guides to Pennsylvania government.

Our New Look

PA.gov is Pennsylvania’s digital front door, so we want to make sure it reflects the welcoming, visionary, and driven residents who live and work here. We think our new look does just that.

We also simplified the homepage — stripping away features that user feedback and analytics showed were not useful — and added an expandable side menu to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.

Popular on PA.gov

Our most popular content is now featured front and center on our homepage with our new “Popular on PA.gov” section. This data is collected and updated in real time, giving you easy access to the most popular content on PA.gov.

Filter options allow you to view the top content for the last 24 hours and the last seven days.

Government Directory

In June, we announced the first phase of our new government directory. Since the directory was a top request from our users, we’ve kept working at it to make it even more accessible.

You can now find the directory at pa.gov/directory and in the top navigation of every page on PA.gov. No matter where you are on PA.gov, every Pennsylvania agency’s social media, website, contact information, and news hub is only a click away.

In just under a month, the directory has already become our most popular page on PA.gov.

Guides to Pennsylvania Government

Accessing government services can be a confusing process. That’s why we’re introducing easy-to-use guides to government services. Each guide is organized around a topic and includes information from across agencies to help you navigate government services.

Current guides include Voting in Pennsylvania, Protecting Yourself Online, and Open Government Resources — stay tuned as we add more.

We’re always testing better ways to connect Pennsylvanians with government services online and we want to hear from you! Have any suggestions for how we can improve PA.gov? Check out the pilot site and take the feedback survey.
