Governor Wolf Joins Legislators & Leading Advocates to Celebrate 35 Million Cases Sealed on Anniversary of Clean Slate Law
On Tuesday, June 30th, at 2:30pm, Governor Wolf will join Senator Camera Bartolotta, House Minority Whip Jordan Harris, Rep. Sheryl Delozier, and criminal justice advocates for a virtual panel celebrating the anniversary of the Clean Slate Act and the 35 million cases automatically sealed since the historic bill was implemented. Individuals impacted by Clean Slate will join the panel to share their personal stories and what this historic legislation means for them. This first-in-the-nation bill is bringing much-needed relief to 1 million Pennsylvanians facing the long-lasting stigma of a record. States across the U.S. are now following in Pennsylvania’s footsteps, with momentum for clean slate and other second chance policies picking up steam as lawmakers seek to promote a robust economic recovery and address growing calls to overhaul our broken criminal justice system.
This celebration comes on the heels of last week’s passage of Senate Bill 637 – a sweeping occupational licensing overhaul that, coupled with Clean Slate, will give justice-impacted people a much needed chance to enter the workforce and contribute to Pennsylvania’s recovery as the economy begins to open back up.
