Governor Wolf Tours Greiner Packaging, Hosts Discussion on Workforce Training and Apprenticeships

Governor Wolf will tour Greiner Packaging in Pittston. After the tour, the governor will host a discussion on the importance of workforce training and apprenticeships in Pennsylvania.

Governor Wolf’s 2017-18 budget includes an apprenticeship grant program – both for those leaving the K-12 education system and those transitioning into a new industry sector. Businesses can seek funding of up to $2,000 for each apprentice employed pursuant to an apprenticeship agreement with the Office of Apprenticeship, U.S. Department of Labor.

Greiner Packaging has partnered with Luzerne County Community College to off the GOLD Apprentice Program. The Greiner GOLD Program combines technical and vocational training including in-house structured on-the-job experience. Greiner’s partnership with Luzerne County Community College includes a two-year Advanced Mechatronics degree combined with a three-year apprenticeship program recognized by the state.
