Building on his plan to expand job training for Pennsylvanians, Governor Tom Wolf today announced more than $5.3 million in the first PAsmart Apprenticeship and Next Generation Industry Partnerships grants for south central and southeast Pennsylvania. The governor launched PAsmart last year to increase STEM and computer science education, apprenticeship and job training to prepare workers with the skills that growing businesses need.

Governor Tom Wolf today visited Misericordia University’s Ruth Matthews Bourger Women with Children Program to outline his bold budget plan to create the strongest workforce in the nation. The governor’s Statewide Workforce, Education, and Accountability Program (SWEAP) will provide opportunities for Pennsylvanians from birth to retirement, including $5 million in funding to support single parents in post-secondary education. Governor Wolf was joined by Representative Karen Boback, a Misericordia alumna.

Governor Tom Wolf announced $467,000 in PAsmart grants for Northwest Pennsylvania today as part of his PAsmart initiative. The grants will support the northwestern region’s plastics, advanced manufacturing, and building and construction industries with on-the-job training opportunities and private- and public-sector partnerships to help Pennsylvanians in this region gain the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century economy.
